    mild kit

Hi all, I have recently moved from tinned kits to using malt extracts but I have been given a 'geordie mild' kit. I have had a great deal of success with the geordie bitters but I've found that they need enhancing with orange and spices in the boiled water to take away the twangy after taste...

    recipe confusion

Thanks for the quick replies chaps. That has made clear the whole sugar situation. Cheers for that. Because this is my first extract brew I was aiming for a small run hence the odd quantity (one tin at 1800kg) and I was aiming to amend the other quantities accordingly making a total of 14...

    a new Christmas ale

Hi all, I have been brewing now for 6 months and have had success with both kits and simple recipes using foraged items from Nature's Larder. I am planning some Christmas beers and as well as my own recipes I was hoping to enhance a kit (probably caxton real ale) with a few Christmas-esque...

    Universal Barrel Hose

Hi all, the universal barrel hose was a massive success, just needed to upgrade the hose that it came with and fitted it to a pub CO2 bottle using a gas regulator. The result; lovely creamy ale with a head that stays all the way to the bottom of the glass. Thanks for all the help advise chaps.

    leaking tap

Brilliant! thanks to all. Re-barrelled with very little disturbance and used the tube as recommended. All looking good, old tap getting tossed in the bin.

    leaking tap

Yes the barrel's got a valve but I haven't gassed it up yet (I normally use the natural pressure/gas for the first few pints before affixing the cylinder. The tap is at the bottom but I'm pretty sure I can get some height and gravity feed it into the new barrel without too much disturbance. P.S...

    leaking tap

Emergency! I have 40pints of ale in a pressure barrel. It's been sitting there quietly for 6weeks but last night it started dripping through the dodgy tap that I'd thought I had mended. I have another barrel on stand by and a few bottles, question is; before transfering will I have to add more...

    cloudy J Bull lager

Hi all, I have had a lot of success over the last couple of months using 5 gallon Beer Kits. After the fermentation I usually fill about 6 x 75cl bottles then put the rest in a pressure barrel. I have used a John Bull lager kit and the bottles settled quickly, are crystal clear and taste great...
