    HOP ID

The cheese aroma is an interesting one, I read somewhere that oxidised goldings can have a cheese aroma.

    HOP ID

It's pretty much impossible to tell from a picture of just the cone, I have tried! They look similar to what I had found growing wild in chorley. Mine smelled citrusy and grassy, which from pictures and the aroma finder on hop union I thought must be fuggles (or something similar), although I...

    Extract brewing advice

All grain is much cheaper and you can get away with biab, but i think playing with extract to begin with means you can get in more recipes under your belt and understand steeping grains and hop boils etc. one thing i meant to say above is that i have a ball valve attached but no filter so it...

    Extract brewing advice

I am only just moving into all grain after around 2 years of extract brewing. but i started off with this 15 litre setup (i say started off with, but i am still using it) - not very big but i think i got 5 15 litre buckets off ebay for about a tenner. one of them i shoved a tesco kettle element...

    High FG

I have had that in the past where it has been around 1.015 and not budged. i did as you're thinking - just conservative on the priming sugar and everything was fine.

    The best boiler

Very nice, but a bit pricey. was thinking of having a shallower conical bit. cheers for the link though!

    The best boiler

Cheers guys, the evaporation thing sounds about right, so that's another argument for taller and thinner. Regarding saving, I think most non brewers see home brewers as tight ar*es who want to Brew as cheaply as possible. Whilst maybe that's the case for a few I think the vast majority are beer...

Sorry about that, I'll try and sort it - first time I have tried adding pics. Had a bit of confusion linking through Flickr.

Improvised brew day with wild hops (firstAG biab sort of)

Firstly sorry to all those who have gone to the effort of producing how tos and answering my various dumb questions - I have read and digested them, unfortunately that may not be evident from today's botch job. I have been brewing extract for 2years so thought I'd try and go ag as I'm having a...

    The best boiler

Brilliant, this is what i was looking for - it is the starting point of a 3 vessel set up Exactly my requirement - i'm hoping it will be the only one i need for at least 10 years (all being well) I suppose my only reason for this was efficiency of space and ease of sticking an element in on a...

Square boiler with conical bottom tap

cheers, current garage (in-laws) i think has a mains loop of its own, and obviously i'll get one put in the shed or garage wherever i end up getting a new house - thats not a problem. i'll keep all that separate then i know what is running (other than boiler just fridges and lights) one last...

Square boiler with conical bottom tap

Great thanks, i have used the tesco one in my present boiler for nearly 2 years and that has a home made silicon seal on that made from a baking tray and never had any problems, but with 2 running would the extra .2kw make any difference, trip a switch, blow my inlaws garage up? It is properly...

How long do you wait before drinking your brew

I generally sample after 2 weeks bottle conditioning - then decide if i want to condition longer or not. generally darker stronger = longer, lighter weaker = sooner.

Square boiler with conical bottom tap

great, tthanks. Now i'm sorry if this sounds daft, but the tesco ones seem to be rated at 2.2kw - and the ones linked at 2kw, wouldn't the tesco ones be more powerful or is there some sort of efficiency or reliability thing going on. sorry electrics is a bit of a weak point for me.
