    Bumbling amateur's first (ham-fisted) brewday

Congratz on your first independant brewday. I see by your photos you have one heck of a clean house. I would suggest putting something under the fermenter incase it bubbles over and ruins your carpet. I also live in a now slightly sealed Victorian draftbox, i have the opposite problem of...

    AG#1 Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby

Congratz on turning to the Dark Side! :drink: I also had some issues with the final quantity - 2 buckets both measurements on fluid content are well out. I measured an amount in a 2ltr coke bottle and just tried to multiply it. I really need to stop being lazy and work out the acutal volume of...

    AG#4 - Big Kenny

With my first AG i did two weeks ago i found i had less in the boiler than expected too, although the gravity was spot on for my recipe even adding more water to make up the 23 ltrs. GW said in his book about dark grains for colour uncrushed, just lose all that sugar from it i suppose.

    AG#4 - Big Kenny

Are those dark grains that have been left at the end of your mash supposed to be crushed? The choc i ordered was is that normal?

    strenght of beer

Yeah, I have moobs and two teenage kids...so the rest doesn't matter anymore. Drinking heavily in my youth is the reason i was 'popular' with the ladies, so many boilers and trolls that you wake up with makes you say time and time again 'I'm never gonna drink again!'.

    First time brew !

I'm half finished my barrel of Admiral's Reserve..pretty good finish! I didnt even bother with gelatine with this kit and it's cleared out nicely. Mine was in the barrel for 4 weeks before i touched it. If you havent tried Wherry consider that kit for your next one perhaps.

Update to AG#1 Broadford Pale - now with pics

I'm sure in the 1979 book it wont have the 'electronic means' part of the clause. If you post the recipe 'slightly modified' then your not infringing the copyright of the material your using, because it no longer represents the original material. With the Dave Lines books the recipes quoted are...

    woodfordes wherry - advice please

You will find most kit brewers have made this product. A cracking beer to be honest. I even went as far as Norfolk to try it in a pub to see the difference, the only issue is that it didnt clear properly this was mainly to do with the high temps i suffer in my flat and inability at the time to...

    Home Brew Shop

Good idea, but why not offer to become an outlet for them in your town. There stock, your space - no additional outlay you just take a percentage of the profit from sales. If they dont want to take up the offer, then make space and stock up. I'm currently thinking of doing the same in North...

    Legality

Well...your not being paid to brew it are you? You are purely having you costs covered only. I'm sure the tax man would say otherwise - Technically, I would have thought that wort is not beer, does it only become beer when it has yeast and is fermenting? i dont know.

    Super Secret - AG#1 Ringwood's Old Thumper

Well it was 5 deg/c outside so i thought it would have cooled quicker, but hey-ho! I'm furiously drinking my existing brew so i can get it in the barrel in a few days time...im going to leave it for 10 days until it gets down to it expected stopping OG. I have stired up the yeast and there is a...

    Super Secret - AG#1 Ringwood's Old Thumper

Yeah, i live in a shared house with 4 other women apart from my GF so it's all very much brew without permission lol they have all tried my kits and they like them. The only comment i got yesterday was that my GF thought a rat had died due to the smell in the house  I said it must be from...
