    New kegerator build - pics

The gas bottle is tucked down the side with the gas line fed in through the hole that fed the wire to the thermostat/light.

    New kegerator build - pics

I did try to persuade Mrs M. that it would look great in the kitchen. She was having none of it. :nah:

    New kegerator build - pics

Cheers. It will look good once I get the finishing touches done and stainless drip tray added. Will be great pouring chilled beer from this in the summer.

    New kegerator build - pics

I am getting there with my new kegerator build. Got a nice 2 tap beer tower from Kegworks in the US and mounted into some worktop. Just need to fix the worktop in place and put some trim underneath to mount the temp controller into.

    adding oak/whisky

I'm thinking I'd like to try whisky oaking an imperial stout I've made. From what I've read, oak chips seem to be a bit of a minefield and difficult to get the level of oak right. My thinking is to steep the oak bourbon barrel chips in bourbon for a few weeks to essentially create a heavily...

Last brew of 2012 / first of 2013 Cliffhanger Oatmeal Stout

It was a great day for brewing - early start, blue skies and yeast pitched before 11am. A few pictures:

Last brew of 2012 / first of 2013 Cliffhanger Oatmeal Stout

My last brew of 2012 will also by my first of 2013. Will be mashing in a big oatmeal stout before midnight tonight and then finishing off the brew at 7am tomorrow. Will also be enjoying a few beers this evening so hopefully the head won't be too sore in the morning for my planned early start...

    Affordable Malt Mill

Yeah, I was coming to the conclusion this would be a false economy. Of course, I don't actually NEED a maltmill at all... :-)

    Affordable Malt Mill

I have been thinking about maltmills but barley crusher or crankenmaster etc. are quite expensive. And I then saw this and wondered if it would do an acceptable job. I see the deluxe version can be motorised with a drill too. Certainly a lot more affordable than the others I have thought...

Waht grains and hops to stock up on?

Also remember, what initially seems a nice % off a huge order, becomes a waste of money if you can't use it fast enough or you get bored of brewing the same thing and it goes past it's best.

Waht grains and hops to stock up on?

My advice would be to buy base malt in reasonable bulk, depending on how often you plan to brew, and buy the other malts and hops in small qualtities when you decide what you are brewing next. If you are starting out you will want to experiment with different recipes so there is no sense in...

    80/- Brewday

It's the recipe called "Big Kenny" in the recipes section. Brewed it a couple of times and it's a good 'un. :thumb:

    80/- Brewday

A quick brewday today. 7am mash in. Wort in fermenter by 10.45. First brew with a hopsock - it worked well and will be doing that again. A few piccies:

    Diluting back volume

Great thanks for the advice.

    Diluting back volume

Quick question - I need to add 2 litres of water to get my lager back to intended volume/OG as I lost more in the boil than calculated for. It's in the fermenter now, so does it matter if this is done once fermenting is over and I am racking it or will I end up with watery tasing beer?

Good stuff. Looking forward to a sample. I've got a starter going on the stirplate for a lager brew on Sunday.
