    Stinky Pete

Never been happy with this hand pull. Despite thorough cleaning it has always given a taint. So I want to look inside. Anyone know the trick to getting this apart? Thanks.

    elements 100l

you're quite right Simon. I had a complete doofus moment, busy week last week. Of course 11" fits the pot. I shall use on of these https://www.oilybits.com/backer-screw-plug-immersion-heaters-incoloy-stainless.html and a smaller one. I can knock the small one off at boil and keep rolling boil...

    elements 100l

    elements 100l

Hi folks, Any pointers as to what/where electric elements for 100l pots? I had previously looked at oilybits.com but the elements are too long at 11 inches. thanks

    Metallurgy

Is it ok to use copper push-fit fittings inside the boiler? It's come to my attention that they have solder inside them so surely they must leach when placed in a boil of 1 1/2hours? Compression fittings also might leach zinc, so I'm told. DZR fittings might be the thing. What do others use? My...

    Favourite Hops & Uses

Yep. I found that to be the same. I can hardly find a decent ale from the shop now. And it's not my own prejudice either. My mate mentioned a few months ago how disappointing he nd Guinness to be now in the bars after he had tasted more than a few of my stouts. So I would just like to give a...

AG#36 Finally cracked it......... Punk IPA

Coming in late here, but Kev says he 'top cropped' the yeast on this one , which means what exactly? That he cropped some from the krauten, in its fiery throes, to be used on another occasion, rather than go through the rigmarole of washing yeast from the trug at end of fermentation?

    1011.5 and not beyond

Brew seems to have decided to settle at 1011.5 and not going beyond. Been like that for 7 days. To whit: 5.2 kg Maris otter; 15g Black Malt; northern brewer; bobek; SO4. SG 1051 and ten days later it reaches 1011.5 and has stayed that way for seven days. Really clean and really smooth...

    Grain price rise

Spotted this in paper:http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/dec/04/bread-prices-uk-wheat-crop So if the wheat harvest in UK is bad enough for significant rise in import and price, what about our beloved barley? Has anyone heard anything about this years crop?

    Sara Carter's Bombay IPA

I brewed this recipe of Sarah's in May. It was the first AG i have ever done. It does change a fair bit. If i remember it tasted amazing straight off but then after about two or three weeks in the bottle the hop aroma seemed to dissipate. It then changed again and the hops and bitterness...

    Broken boiler in mid brew....

The elements were furred up. They came on this morning when I flicked the switches. Anyway, I turfed the wort into a bucket, cleaned the elements until shiny silver again and re-booted and whole thing went okay.

    Broken boiler in mid brew....

It was just approaching rolling boil so all the hop schedule was ahead of me. So, fix in morning and Carry On Brewing!

    Broken boiler in mid brew....

Baulox!! The boiler just gave up the ghost and I have 28l of stupendous IPA wort in there!! That will learn me to use those two cheap tesco kettle elements. They have done 6 brews and given up on this, the seventh. Question: will it be salvageable if i go first thing in morning, buy two more...

SG readings of wort from tun

There may well be an obvious answer to this one but I do like obvious questions. I followed Scarer's recipe for Bombay IPA and she said to watch for the runnings from the mash tun reaching 1024 whereupon she stopped. Is that 1024 at the, likely, wort temperature of 60-65c? Or is it 1024 at 20c...

Hi, From north coast of Ireland

Have a couple of questions and have perused site for relevant threads but no joy (yet!....probably there somewhere!). Freezing your hops. What do you do when you need, say, 40g from the 80g you have in you have frozen? Thaw it out and take what you need and then re-freeze, cos I thought you...

Hi, From north coast of Ireland

Greetings and salutations!, I've dived in and gone straight to the dark side. Haven't a had a drop of alcohol for 6 years and then last year I was in Sheffield, stepped into the pub on the station and felt immediately like Homer Simpson in the chocolate shop. Oh. My God. A long, long bar of...
