Does this sound like an infection?

First thought is starsan is not a cleaner. If you have microscopic organic deposits there will be bugs under it that the starsan cannot get at. First clean with a mix of warm water and PBW or orther oxygen based cleaner. Rinse at least 3 times then sanitize before you use it. Sent from my...

    Grainfather shock

I have both traditional and GF systems. I'll temper this with the comment that I've been home brewing for over 20 years and I'm 46 years old. Having said that I'm using the GF more for these reasons: 1. Able to easily do a step mash 2. Can brew indoor or outside depending on the weather 3...

    Fermenting Through Airlock

Agree with DoctorMick, but if you haven't swapped out the air lock you need to do so. I would also recommend rigging up a blow off tube in the future. A blow off tube replaces the airlock assembly and the other end of the tubing is placed in a container of sanitizer next to your fermenter...

great head to no head rapid

Your glass might not be "beer clean" meaning residual soap from washing will destroy head retention Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Dry Hop & Cold Crash

No, drop hopping for even up to 7 days is fine. I usually cold crash for 24-48 hrs and then keg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Fish Tank Heaters

You said you are brewing a lager. That traditionally ferments at 11-12 C. What is your ambient temperature? I'm in the USA and I'm still 18C in my basement. If anything I need a chiller mist of the year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Blichmann or SS Brewtech

I'd would go with SS Brewtech. Both products are great but You mentioned a mashtun as well and in that case I think the insulated SS mashtun would be better at retaining mash temp. And SS is less expensive overall Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    A little concerned...

That doesn't look right. But pics can be deceiving. Agree with comment above on cleaning. Plastic scratches easily. You may have ruining the fermenter. Did you taste/smell the gravity reading you took? That will let you know quickly if there is an issue. In extreme cases the beer may...

    Spring water

Not too sure how to interoperate the numbers. I generally read water chemistry in ppm. But as stated earlier if it tastes good then go for it. I would get it tested for iron content. Small levels can ruin a beer. Recommend searching Ward Labs. They offer a complete Brewers analysis...
