Single infusion - is there any need to sparge at all?

Hi MF. I usually have a large grain bill relative to my boiler, so don't really have room for my total volume of liquor at the start, taking into account what I will lose, due to grain soakage, leaving trub behind, evaporation and hop absorption. I usuall have about 6 or 7kg of grain, so mash...

Single infusion - is there any need to sparge at all?

I use the brew in the bag technique, and still sparge, as would most boil in a bag people. BIAB just means that you are using your bolier as your mash tun.

    hops to france

Maybe try this crowd in Germany. The delivery charge might be less, and the time to deliver quicker. They are more European types of hops rather then english ones, so depends what your are after. http://www.eickelmann.de/Store/pi229265 ... tegoryId=7

Not to take away from this forum, but if you want to check out the Irish scene, have a look at Beoir.org It's both the forum for a consumer group trying to highlight and encourage the availability and consumption of Irish craft brews, and also an active homebrewing forum. Was previously Irish...

    OTT

I remember it. I used to sneak down from bed to watch it with the babysitter, once my parents had gone to the Pub. I would have been 9 in 1982.

    Give blood

I tried to give blood here in Ireland, but because I lived in the UK during the Mad cow time, they won't take it as they can't test it properly.

Brewed a Ginger Beer - Tasted Like a Bakers Urinal

I would go for Turbo Cider, just to get the basic steps of brewing. Basically just shop bought apple juice, plus yeast. You can use most types of yeast, but most people go for a cider or champagne one. Do a search on here for Turbo cider, and you should see plenty of recipes. I would keep it...

    Sparkling wine.

those stoppers that trapped the yeast were called or made by sparkelex or something like that. I looked for them a while back, and was told that they are gone out of business, and are no longer being made. That spelling might not be compeltely right as googled it, and nothing came back. I'm...

    PYO Fruit Farms

Hi Moley. I made some great cider last year with the addition of raspberries, blackberries, elderberries, sloes. Freezing my pickings, until I had about 1.5 KG of mixed berries for a 5 gallon batch, and they really made it special. I fermented on the pulp for a about a week or so, before racking...

Very sorry to hear that Gordon. Jake is still talking about the trip that we took down to you recently. The dogs, the cat, and the horses across the road being the highlight for him. Cheers, Billy.

    General Cider Question

Thanks Tubby. Still a bit confused though. If I add the sweetener, that is the taste bit sorted, but then if I add sugar to carbonate, won't I run the risk of that being fermented, or should I sulphate prior to adding the sugar? This is my first attempt at Cider and I am reading Pooley and...

    General Cider Question

I have a 5 gallon batch of Cider, made from mixed apples, pressed at beginning of October. Tasted juice at time of pressing and it was lovely and sweet. I sulphited 24 hours before pitching a youngs cider yeast. Got vigorous initial fermentation, and then relaxed ferment until it stopped about a...
