I recieved a card from the blood donor center this week telling me its time to go give some of my high demand typeO- again.
So thats what im doing today. a good breakfast then off to the donor centre, which just happens to be beside a wetherspoons bar :thumb: , so that'll be lunch of a few ales on low blood. A get drunk quick scheme if ever i heard one!

Anyone else donate blood?

Good on you :thumb:
I don't but I know I should.
Needles destroy me, I'd be no good doing drugs.

I do, but haven't done so for a while.
Good reminder for everyone stevander, you never know when you might need some yourself :thumb:

I play rugby . . .. does that count?

Seriously though I used to, unfortunately they stopped taking mine after all the Mad cow Rubbish, because I had a transfusion way back in the mid 80's when the blood wasn't screened for it (Well they didn't ask the question back then). . . . Somewhat annoying in my case as there is only about 9% of the population with my Blood group!

I do, have been for years .. and talking about a cheap night out after - I did that last time .. won't be doing it again. I got completely wasted on 4 pints.

I have done, but have low blood pressure.... so was told to stop going. But Mrs GJ does on a regular basis, I think we should all try to do so, never know when you might need someone else to do so for you...

They won`t let me either, after giving blood about 10-12 years ago they sent me a letter saying I had traces of hepatitis in the blood and must have had it some time in my life. Strange I would have thought I would have noticed. Also took away my doner card.

I used to, but they won't take mine any more as I have a condition which could, conceivably, develop into cancer.

I'm diabetic ;-)
So sorry to hear that TS, is diet enough or do you need insulin? ;)
If you really want to know I use insulin plus I take 9 pills for the diabetes and associated complications
I obviously have to be careful what I eat too but I try not to let it interfere with my enjoyment of life ;-)

Fine business TS, I didn't mean to pry.
I wasn't quite sure as you used the "wink" smiley, whether you were serious or not.
Obviously you are deadly serious and still drinking beer :thumb:

I tried to give blood here in Ireland, but because I lived in the UK during the Mad cow time, they won't take it as they can't test it properly.

3 times a year for me. Last time i gave blood i tried to lift 2 full djs and almost lost 16 pints of vino!

Don't be embarrassed Jim, If it was a big deal to me I would have kept it off of the forum :thumb:

I used to, they wont let me anymore because I once had a transfusion.....

Its a bit silly really. Those who have had a transfusion are those most likely to donate because they know the value of it. I know they have to be careful to avoid the risk of infections but I think they kind of throw the baby out with the bathwater sometimes. I assure you, my blood is much safer than Wayne Chavs who can still donate.
