Today I went shopping and I bought...

To be honest I'm going off the idea of a first project which won't be available for drinking for another year. I'm thinking I might run with a beer at about 5% which I can have ready for Christmas or before, and once that is bottled and seems ok then I'll go for the big one.

Probably not but I'm not planning on brewing more than 15 litres at this time. If more fermentables are needed Then I'll get more fermentables.

    Keeping cultivated yeast

Assuming that one has successfully cultivated a yeast strain from a bottle-conditioned beer, how would one go about storing it for use in future brews? I'm hoping to start my upcoming brew with yeast from a bottle of Fullers 1845. What beers have others found particularly successful for...

I'm looking at Christmas 2015 for the grand supping so you'll have to be patient. I'm sure that there will be other brews in the meantime though. I'm not planning to be conventional in my brewing.

This is not going to be a swilling beer so I'm hoping for upwards of 8%. Possibly over 10%. When the first bucket brew is over I plan to transfer to demijohns and finish with a sherry yeast.

I knew from the thread title that you were from the East Riding, if not 'Ull (with a hapostrophe) itself. Welcome to the mash!

    Alewife reborn

"Lady" might be stretching it a bit! But yes, wherever a lot of men gather together it's always a good idea to keep an eye on what they are getting up to.

    The Last Beer You Drank...

That would be Whim Flower Power, after the Ulverston Beer Festival finally closed to the public last Saturday night. I've been in detox mode ever since, after three heavy evenings pint-pulling sustained only by beer and pies. Plays havoc with the digestive system.

    Alewife reborn

It would seem so. Perhaps it's time to do something about that imbalance. Not that I've anything against men, you understand. Fried in bacon fat and served with plenty of black pepper they don't taste too bad for breakfast.

    Alewife reborn

Well, hello there! Used to brew, years ago when at home with a small child. Created a particularly feisty brew then – first brewed in a bucket, finished with sherry yeast in a demijohn, bottled and forgotten about for two years. When rediscovered it proved to be magnificent and was dubbed...
