    Hello

Not today :D Welcome to the fold fella. There seems to be a large number of Scots getting into this brewing carry-on.

    One for the Glasgow contingent

Is the home brew shop along by the Thornwood still in business? I always bought my brewing supplies there back when I was making wine. I can't remember what it was called.

    Ayrshire noob here lol

Sounds about right. The buckets don't seem to seal all that well. As long as the CO2 layer prevents oxygen getting at the good stuff it should be fine. When I was brewing wine, I never used an airlock on my primary fermenter. Just snapped the lid on and let it go.

    fermenting

Strawberries are high in natural sugar, so there must still be enough for the yeast to consume. I would test the sg of the wine before considering stopping the fermentation.

    Ayrshire noob here lol

Hello there from another noob Scot. I wouldn't worry too much about the airlock not bubbling, as long as you can see foam starting to form in the fv. The fv may not be fully airtight, but if you press the lid and bubbles appear in the airlock it should be fine. From what I have read, the co2 in...

    Offered - 40+ glass 500ml bottles, Fife

Just saw this, and hope I'm not too late. These would be really useful to me if you still have them. I intend moving to kegs myself once I have managed to produce something that's worth drinking. I'm just down in Stirling and could pop over at the weekend if that's good for you?

    Elderflower Beer

Is it mould, or is it the yeast culture growing on the bread? Elderflowers will produce wild yeast in abundance IIRC (it's been a long time) and the bread might be to attract the yeast away from the brew.

    priming for bottles

One of the things that struck me about this forum when still lurking, was the willingness of more experienced brewers to give out information. Some internet forums are inhabited by the "use the search function" brigade. Doing IT stuff for a day job, I know how difficult it is to search if you...

    wine making new at it

:D New at beer. You can take the wine out of the wino but you can't........ Oh wait. Scratch that

    airlock not bubbling

Maybe try going round the seam of where the lid clips on with vaseline to seal the edges. I got a plastic bin from Boots many years ago where the lid had been shoved inside the bin and had a curve. I eventually had to immerse it in hot water and then clip it on with a board and half a dozen...

    airlock not bubbling

Daft question maybe, but have you tried pressing down on the middle of the fv lid, to see whether the airlock is working? If the seal is OK, pushing the lid down should displace gas and force the airlock to produce a bubble or 3

    hiya folks

Yo! Another Scot. I'm just doon the road, in sunny Stirling.

    wine making new at it

If you want to make wine from fruit, you can boil etc to extract the juice, ferment in a bin then rack into demi-john for second fermentation. I have a single gear masticating juicer though, which although slower is much less hassle. (can also be used in lieu of a cider press) The juicer is also...

    Aye, aye

No worries there for me :D For every 50 miles North you can deduct 1ºC We rarely get above 21ºC at the height of Summer here. I think we got up to 16ºC yesterday. Scorchio!

    Jobs?

Aye, It's a smaller world with these here t'interwebs. I've brewed wine on and off since my late teens, and had a foray into cider at one point. I never had any interest in brewing beer, because I always thought it was easier to buy. I'm going to start with kits, but having always brewed...

    Sealing my rubbber bung

Garden centre or pond shop should be able to supply a 25mm tank coupler which will fit through your lid and seal with a rubber washer. The airlock bung should be a tight fit in t'other end.
