    ok so want to do first AG. I have picked up a stainless steel boiler (free!!) but it only holds 4 gallon / 18L. as its my first i would like to follow a recipe however most of the recipes cater for around 20-22L mark. If I loose say 3L+/- through the process that leaves me with 15L+/- approx...

    you'll need to measure your gravity before you strain then use this to work out how much sugar you need to add to get you up to 13. although i tried this recently and miss calculated, looks like i'm going to land closer to 15%. what can you do?

    4 days on and fermentation is strong, so strong it keeps blowing the water out of the bubbler, had to top it up twice now. Temp has been at a steady 19c.

    I had a wee sniffter of my first attempt at a (ahem) "wine" today, 5 days after first racking. totally stunned, tastes quite nice, handed a wee glass to the mrs to try, her face was a peach, she loved it. happy days.
