Looking to brew my second kit, thinking about;

coopers brew master wheat beer
+ 1.5kg coopers amber mat extract
+ 500g light spray malt or brewing sugar
= ??

should cost around £40 inc delivery, cheap at a £1 a pint (if good) but far too expensive to risk a shambles.

Opinions? will this work or am i creating a disaster?

:hmm:

£40........ for a 40 pint kit ?

wheat must be expensive these days...

You can get decent kit beer for £20.

Woodforde's Wherry is always good and only costs £18.
Coopers stout 500g DME and a tin of treacle is around £18 and is also very popular.
St Peters Ruby Red is meant to be awesome as well.

If you're willing to pay that much on a kit, I'd check out brewUK and look at their extract brew kits. I heard the exmoor gold clone is really good. Should only cost you around £30 inc. P+P and will be better than any kit you modify. All you need is a pan big enough to boil around 6L i think. :thumb:

..........Eh, aye, dont know where that 4 came from, should have been a 2....... £20, aye definitely £20. sorry for the confusion, anyway back to the point, will it work out?

Yup, this all sounds very expensive to me...

My LHBS:

coopers wheat: £14.20
1.5kg extract: £10.70
0.5kg DME: £3.80

Total: £28.70

S**t! Add a tenner for postage and that is indeed near enough 40 quid!

I take it you don't have a local-ish one then?

I have found a site that gives free postage over £49. Excellent next day delivery service included, plus their prices are a very competitive.. St Peters RRA for example is £19.39 (£23.20 in my nearest HBS). I order 3 kits and a few bits and bobs at a time and it works out very economical. Have used them three times and had excellent service. www.art-of-brewing.co.uk (no affiliation to them, just a satisfied customer)

cheers
