    my new pid unit

Hi Tazuk, My mistake... I misinterpreted your setup  but thanks for the clarification. I'm looking for someone who has built a UK version of one of these... HEATSTICK ...a 'portable' or additional, heating element ;)

    LHBS Nottingham or South Yorkshire??

Unfortunately, you'll be lucky to find any small retailer open outside of those hours. Probably the best idea. BTW, you could try White Rose Home Brew >>CLICKY<< ...they have a shop in Goldthorpe apparently.

    Boiler questions

Yup, IMHO, you need 70L or bigger for that brew length. Bit of moot point really as, AFAIK, the most popular 'available' UK keg size is 50L, so too small for your needs. WRT the legality & cost, I 'll let you do the research ...you may even find some larger kegs ;) 99.9% of brewers do not use...

    Tank connectors and hop strainers.

Cheapest option AFAIC, is to use a 1/2"BSP Male to 15mm straight adaptor. Use a compression fitting, item# 6671 from BES. Fit this to a short length of 15mm copper pipe. File or drill out the tank connector as perviously mentioned. Connect the ball valve to the 1/2"BSP adaptor; run the pipe the...

    ok to use?

Hi Mozzy, Firstly, I think you're asking your questions in the wrong part of the forum. This is the "How to..." section (note, no question mark at the end of the title). This particular section is where other brewers/winemakers post instructions about how to do or make things to educate the rest...

    solar pumps

Power = Current X Voltage or Current = Power ÷ Voltage 8Watts ÷ 12Volts = 0.667 Amps (in an ideal world ;) ). Hence the recommended 750mA (0.75A) supply. Obviously you can use a higher current supply - e.g. 1Amp - but going lower could overheat the supply or shorten it's lifespan. Something...

beer kit enhancers / malt extract - what/why?

Dave, I think 'they' say that liquid malt extract is ~20% H20 so that would imply a 1.5kg can of LME ~= 1.2kg of dried malt extract (from above... >>CLICKY<<). But usually it's either 1.5 kg LME or 1kg of DME. Again, the 'usual' equivalent for 1kg of sugar is 1kg of DME (or 500g of each)...

beer kit enhancers / malt extract - what/why?

Marco, Have a look here... >>CLICK ME<< ...and here... >>CLICK ME TOO<< PB2 is basically Mr. Coopers - his advice is as valid as it gets. So you could make their 'Authentic IPA' recipe with your 1.7kg can of IPA + all of the 1.5kg can of LME (Liquid Malt Extract) & 500g of sugar (ignore the...

Using StarSan with halfords deionised water.

From the 'horses mouth'... "When it is diluted to 300 ppms one ounce per 5 (US) gallons of water or 1.5-1.6 mls/liter the actives are 300 ppms of DDBSA and 930 ppms of phosphoric acid." See here...1/3 page down... Charley Talley of Five Star Chemicals

Using StarSan with halfords deionised water.

"The recommended usage is one fluid ounce per 5 gallons of water." 1 US fl.oz. = 30ml. 5 US gallons = 19 litres (& 4.16 UK gallons). So ~1.6ml of Starsan to 1 litre water. Or, ~7.5ml Starsan to 1 UK Gallon of water. Sound about right?
