    Grainfather fermenter, temperature control

Hello, I am thinking of purchasing a Grainfather fermenter. Does anyone know whether Grainfather fermenters have thermowells? If not, how do they measure the temperature and is the measurement it reliable? Also, I ferment in my garage where it can get cold; for example currently it is 11...

    Passivating SS Brew Bucket

The recommended concentration for passivation is 1 ounce of starsan per US gallon but the recommended concentration for sanitising is 1 ounce of starsan per 5 US gallons. Although at sanitising concentration levels it is not harmful and does not have to be rinsed, at passivation concentration...

    Pale Amber Malt

Hi, yes I mentioned the Whitbread’s London Porter recipe from the Durden Park book, which I brew at least once a year. It is a lovely Porter. I tweak the recipe a bit though, by replacing about a quarter of the base malt with smoked malt which, once mellowed, adds a subtle complexity to the...

    Replacement tap King Keg

Yes, the backs of the taps are just hollow and the bit at the end of the float hose that loooks like a plug will fit firmly into the cavity of the tap. If your tube doesn’t have that plug, you will definitely need the both items I mentioned in my message above.

    Hello from France!

I’ve made three SMASH beers one day a couple of years ago, using only MO and each with a different local hop, fermented with WLP005. I served them slightly chilled. Rouge Barbe was my favourite, followed by Perle. Aramis one wasn’t that good, though it might be better in a lager. If you would...

    Hello from France!

Hi Ankoù, Welcome to the forum! I order from Brouwland occasionally, usually some European hops and sometimes yeast. When I am over in the Netherlands I also buy some stuff from Braumarkt in Almere. But these days almost all my ingredients come from the UK, mostly from the Maltmiller and...

    CO2 Regulator Advice

Hello @peebee and @Bigcol49, you are right, that adapter would not work unfortunately, it has a little valve pin in it. I reckon the best thing would be to take out the existing CGA320 fitting out from the Taprite regulator and replace it with this one...

    CO2 Regulator Advice

Hi, Doesn’t this regulator come with a CGA320 fitting? I bought one of these a couple of months ago from the US Amazon and realised too late that it won’t fit standard European gas bottles. I don’t know what to do with it now, so I’ve ordered a different one which should fit the gas bottle I have.

    Base malt preference

MO from Warminster is my top choice for most of my beers (except for golden promise when I brew TT Landlord and other Yorkshire beers). I like it because it is perfectly balanced, not too sweet yet it imparts a warming maltyness (is that a word?).

    Bere Malt

Hello everyone, I’ve read somewhere today about “bere malt”. Apparently it is made from a very old variety, six-row barley, grown on a small scale on a number of Scottish islands. I’ve tried to find some for sale but couldn’t. Has anyone tried this malt, or anyone seen it for sale anywhere?
