    Priming with apple juice

Cheers Tim, am I right in assuming that if you add malic acid, you need to leave it for quite A while once bottled for mlf to take place?

    Priming with apple juice

Cheers for the replies, I take it the suma concentrate is kind of like a cordial but you don't have to boil the preservatives out as its natural, kind of like the lowicz syrups? The apple extract looks interesting as well.

    Priming with apple juice

I'm quite new to home brewing and have so far primed all the batches I've done with 5g sugar per 500ml. Although the different tc's I have made so far have been pretty good, I would like more apple flavour in them so would priming with apple juice instead of sugar help or is there something else...

Cheap & Simple Tropical Punch - A BBQ MUST

Your SG sounds a little low there, I take it your making a total of 25L (5L cordial and 20L water)? If that's the case, would think you need to add another 400g sugar as the original recipe is for 5L, for 25L you would need 2000g sugar.

    Alcoholic Lemonade

Last week I put on a batch to try and make some alcoholic lemonade (was aiming for something like lemon hooch), I used second2nones Tropical punch recipe but with the lemon fruit and barley and the juice of 2 lemons squeezed in as well. Checked on it today and looks like I have failed miserably...

Starting from scratch - equipment and kits

Dependant on how much you want to brew/spend it can be done quite cheaply. I'm new to home brewing myself and when I first started, I was using 5L water bottles from the supermarket with a hole drilled in the cap and an air lock fitted into it. Only other things you might need are a hydrometer...

Cheap & Simple Tropical Punch - A BBQ MUST

Well just tried my first bottle of summer fruits and its lacking a bit in taste for my liking but I do usually mix the cordial quite strong, had a spare bottle of cordial left over so added a bit and its done the trick. Have just put a DJ of lemon on as per the original recipe but have added the...

Cheap & Simple Tropical Punch - A BBQ MUST

Bottled up 10 litres of summer fruits yesterday so looking forward to trying the finished article, the still sample I had was very pleasant :-)

    Raspberryade

Cheers for the reply second2none, your probably right, i was just going off how long it took my TC to go fizzy but thinking about it, the 7 days in the warm for those bottles was warmer as it was the warm week we had a few weeks ago. Its just me being impatient to drink it as this weekend is...

    Raspberryade

I bottled a batch of this up around 2 weeks ago. Spent 7 days in the warm and 7 days in the cold but have just cracked a bottle open and its barely carbonated. I added a teaspoon of sugar to each 500ml bottles which I thought would be plenty. Has anybody got any suggestions to how I can get them...

    flavoured cider

I'm still pretty new to this myself and have just started drinking my first batch of tc flavoured with lowicz syrup. Although there is a raspberry after taste, its not quite as strong as I would have liked. With my next batch, instead of priming the bottles with sugar, I am going to prime them...

    TC when to top up?

I put my first batch of TC on 5 days ago and was just wondering what are the signs that it is ready to top up with aj? Currently the airlock is bubbling around every 12 seconds, this is my first brew so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    CO2 build up

As Aquila said, try changing the refresh rate on your monitor, it stops the screen flickering as much. I sit behind a PC screen all day at work and find 60Hz the best setting.

    Airlocks not bubbling

Cheers for the advice guys. Only done a small batch of TC Stevie as these are my first 2 brews, if they are good though i will definitely be making some bigger batches up.

    Airlocks not bubbling

Might try that next time, I fitted grommets into the caps I have at the moment.

    Airlocks not bubbling

Thanks for the heads up Chippy tea, both djs have tiny bubbles rising in them so like you said, it must be leaky lids, I'm guessing this isn't really an issue as long as the gas can escape? I have a batch or raspberryade on the go and a turbo cider with raspberry lowicz syrup in, with the hope...

    Airlocks not bubbling

I put my first couple of brews on Thursday night but there doesn't seem to be any air lock activity, both are in clear plastic djs and there are bubbles and foam in the brews just nothing being released from the air locks. Is this OK or do I need to throw some more yeast in?

First batches on the go :-)

Thanks for the tip Gayle, will just top up with aj then as I don't want rocket fuel, the whole reason for trying home brew is to make cider how I want it to taste.

First batches on the go :-)

After lurking the forums for a while I have finally decided to take the plunge and do a couple of 1 gallon batches to get the hang of things before jumping into a 5 gallon batch. First batch is a TC, used 4 litres of aj, 220ml raspberry lowicz, 1 tsp yeast, 1tsp yeast nutrient, 1 tsp tannin...
