    Low density elements

Somebody uses Low watt density? Is it really that bad, meaning scorching, with kettle elements in boiler? I am doing 30l batches, now using gas, building HERMS.. I have standart kettle element 2kW for HLT and herms unit, but now choosing element for boiler. I found 3,5kW UltraLowWattDensity on...

so I ordered phase angle controller, I spoke with my friend- educated electrician, he suggested to use some shielding roud the controller, case or somth. and use shielded cable.. and I should be fine and here is the early lay-out of control box all components are 1:1, size of box 40x40cm

    HERMS questions

I was also considering getting another PID, to control one element in boiler, but I think that direct regulation of one element is better.. no idea, what you mean by burst fire.. :hmm: anybody?

    HERMS questions

Hi, I have another question :) can I regulate one of my two tesco kettle element- 2,2kW in my boiler, using this? I think so, but not sure thanks

    which PID

solving the same problem.. those will be good, I think.. what sort of switches did you use for 12V DC? I found plenty, but none of them had some good IP rating.. want it to be safe at first :!:

    HERMS questions

SSRs, probes, auber PIDs, solar pump ordered few days ago, steinless steel mashtun already at home.. :) now dealing with powering and regulating solar pump- what to order :hmm: .. My solar pump is 14W- the strongest one- runs for 12V DC, so I suppose I need DC adaptor- draw 14W/12V- is 1,16A...

    HERMS questions

I do not want boiler controlled by PID. PIDs are for HLT and HERMS unit. In boiler, I plan to have probe and digital temperature meter, just for knowing temperature- heating and cooling, not for controll. also I guess that some sort of power controller is good idea too.. What do you think...

    HERMS questions

Hi, I read your topic again and you have the probes I was looking about a week or two earlier on ebay. They were PT100, 2m cable, for a few quid. Now, the same for 50.. here do not know if it is because of Christmas, but enhancement more than ten times..

    HERMS questions

so basically the value must be higher, but how much higher is irrelevant. So I SSR with values: 25A Solid State Relay 3-32V DC 24-380V AC is usable I searched thru ebay and the only for PT100 and I found it on Virtual village but only with 1m length cable and the rest with longer wires are 10...

    HERMS questions

Thanks for answers, but one more came to my mind.. How do I calculate the value of SSR I need.. because brewers here use mostly 25A or 40A. I have 230V in mains And I will follow your advice about PT100

    HERMS questions

Hi, nobody anything about managing temperatures- posted above I made a little search.. and is this the right unit for HLT? Do you use AC or DC to power PIDs? they also claim that K type thermocouple with 3 ft cable is included. But I do not know the quality of probe. I also need the SSR to...
