I have always had an issue with leaving any wort or beer behind when transferring, don't know why I make plenty and drink little but everything goes from boiler to cube everything from cube to fermenter and absolutely everything from fermenter to bottle or keg, but today I have outdone myself having run out of bottles, one short

No, I'm just tight. The last really soupy dregs from the kettle get poured in to a clean 2l pop bottle and left overnight, so I can gently pour off the last 1/2 pint of wort in to my fv
And I have a wedge for bottling day that I stick under the fv so the very last of the beer is in the corner for my Syphon tube to suck up
And the very very last 100ml I can't get, gets swirled about to resuspend the freshest yeast from the trub and gets poured in to a bottle for reusing the yeast in another brew.

My trick is to tip the mash tun and wedge the dog blanket or the Mrs best cardy under it to get every last drop.
I do this too with the AIO - except I use the tub of protafloc to give it just the right angle. I get an extra pint or so out of the kettle

Tubs of protofloc are a precarious venture! If dog blankets or knitwear isn't readily available at a pinch you can use her coat or bundle of freshly washed tea towels.

I get the very last drop out and put it in a special tester bottle. I open this after 2 weeks just to get a taste of what the batch will be like. The rest of this I use in my snail traps.

Nothing wrong with any of this. Just good practice, I would say.
I remember we had a thread a while ago about what to with spent grain, but there's only so much crunchy bread and doggy treats you can handle so it now goes in the compost heap.

Tip the dregs in the kettle into a jug, let is settle in the fridge, heat up to sanitise and bottle. Useful for starters or put it into the fermenter if within the time range.

The Brewzilla drains from the middle of the bottom which is conical so always get last drop from the AIO.

I do use various propping techniques when bottling/kegging, though, but must admit that despite being from Yorkshire I stop before any trub gets through. I even don't bother with incomplete bottles. I share it out as much as possible in the full bottles and then chuck the rest out rather than carbonate a half bottle. :confused.:

Whatever gets into the last bottle, I keep, even if it's only half full. I drink that one first and unless it's a hoppy IPA, then it's pretty much identical to the rest of the batch. If it's a hoppy beer it won't be as bright and fresh as the rest of the batch, but it's still tasty.
