Beer in Cans.

Am I the only one that thinks beer in cans (other than fosters etc) just looks wrong, there is something strangely satisfying about removing the bottle cap with your favorite bottle opener.
I have a feeling the answer will probably be yes.

I'm happy to drink craft beer from the can itself, if the top comes off. But it looks nicer in a glass.

I remember a night out I had a couple of months back where I was drinking cans of Gamma Ray and everyone kept asking why I wasn’t drinking because from the distance it looked like San Pellegrino.

I prefer some beers (mainly hoppy ones) in cans and some in bottles.

Can't stand beer in cans. It might `just' be psychological but there again drinking a beer is as much psychological as it is nutritional / intoxicating etc. There is something very satisfying about popping off a crown cap and pouring a beer from a bottle - I'm not even so sure about swing tops...

I only drink beer out of glasses with the exception being a nice cold Corona or Modelo with a lime in the neck of the bottle on a hot summer’s day.

I almost always pour into a glass but if I wasn’t I would prefer to drink from a bottle than a can. Having said that, cans have a better seal and UV protection than bottles so should stay fresh longer and taste is surely the most important thing. They are also lighter and easier to recycle so it’s easy enough to see why we’ve gone almost full circle and cans are becoming the package of choice for craft breweries.

Cans all the way for me. Unless it’s a specific bottle conditioned Saison or a wild yeast beer that needs age and time.

Freshies out of a can for me. But then I do drink that hipster swill

I'm with you Chippy. It has to be bottles or draught, drunk from a glass, you need to smell the beer.

I have often found that the quality of the beer seems to deteriorate when from a can. Scenario - you try a beer for the first time and it's draught. You really like it. You see it for sale in a bottle so you buy some. You think it is still good but just a little different. You then see it for sale in cans so you buy some. For some reason, it does not taste like the beer you had on draught. I have experienced this quite a few times.

Allot of that is to do with consistency in the processes at the brewery and how good the canning line and canning staff are. O2 has a massive affect on beer stability over its life.

I should add I am adverting packageing in cans rather than drinking from them. Personally, there’s something I don’t like about drinking quality beer from a can.

Exactly. There is a reason why all of these newer breweries package their highly-hopped beers in cans.

I haven't bought beer in a can for myself in a few years at least. I have to put the beer in a glass as it's harder to taste from the bottle and you miss out on the visual.
Home brewing-wise, glass makes so much more sense since they last, in my case, going on 20 years or more. I haven't even had to change the flip-top mechanism.
