hi all
i spotted this on eblag (brewing equiptment see link)
i thought before i jump in with both feet i would get your opinions
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Ste ... 2323cee06e
i think he might of got the quantitys of the containers wrong (they look far too small as a oil barrel is 45Gallons 205L) but other than that what do you all think?
should i buy it?

wrexham is not too far for me to drive either :thumb:

I saw that too, but the state of them made me question if they were actually stainless steel, or maybe aluminium...???

i was wondering the same
they do look worse for ware
do you think its worts giving a miss?
i also queried the volume quoted on the advert (they look far too small for the stated volume)

Hard to say... If they are stainless and just need a good clean then assuming they are a decent size they could be a bit of a bargain :hmm:

i posted a few questions for the seller i'll let you know the outcome
how can i proove its s/steal as some stainless is not magnetic

do you think there worth going to go and have a look at?

They are not oil barrels. They look like custom made bins, but probably not originally made for HB, but they do look like stainless steel to me.

i didnt say they where oil barrels :wha:
i was using oil barrels to compare the volume of them as the seller claims they are 45gallons each which i would dispute
my guess from the pictures they are nearer 10Gallons

If Wrexham is not too far away for you, go have a look. I tend to agree they are not 45 gal but they look a reasonable size when scaled to the fence in the background.

If that's a 4 inch fence post between them, then I make those bins 24" diameter by 28" high, = 12580 cubic inch, 206 litres, 45 gallons.

Go and take a look at them.

The shadow of the person also looks quite small so I would say they were 45 gallon. Also the base of the fence would be 12" so that would make them much bigger than 45l IMHO.
:thumb:

I got dimensions And they calc to 194 litres each vessel so nearly 45 gallon

Sledge if you don't want them get in touch please ;)
I may need you to collect

I Work in Metals and in my opinion ( don't trust him he's a water boy) the lids at least are stainless steel as beating ali like that to form the rim just wouldn't stick!.
If the lids are stainless then Id'e bet my boots the rest are. most Stainless is not magnetic however when worked in thin sheet it can magnetise, It's a weird world stainless as it is far from stainless and it also looks like those bins have been dragged around a bit.
Stainless will scratch and will show dent marks in a different way to ali and ali that's been around a while, especially as bins, would show signs of general air degradation.

do you think there worth going to go and have a look at?
the magnetic issue depends on the grade of stainless
they look very batterd and not like stainless to me v(how can i proove this or not?)
its about 100 miles each way from me
and at the moment my car is doing 15 miles to the gallon
or should i wait and there is another ebay seller doing 100L versions for about £135 with stainless fittings and a sight glass

im not sure weather its worth the fuel for me
i dont really intend to make more than 1 firkin at a time just need capasity for a good boil without it boiling over all the time
