Hi, I am an newbie and have started a Youngs IPA brew. I thought that fermentation has stopped at 8 days and added hops. However, fermentation started again and I have left it for 5 days now. Just had a look and there continues to be a layer of green foam/slime on the surface. Wondered whether I added hops too soon and should I leave the brew until all the green foam/slime dissipates? Thanks

Hops can sometimes set off more fermentation, just take a hydrometer reading should be ok

What should I do about the green slime/foam. Should I wait for it to disappear or skim off?

When you added your hops it probably just released some CO2 that was previously in solution.
This kit does take a long time to ferment out, both mine took 21 days, and so your hydrometer is your best friend. Follow the usual advice and take SG readings every few days, and when the readings are the same on two or three consecutive days its finished and you can bottle. Don't worry about any extended dry hop period, and leave the floating hop particles as they are, most of that will fall to the bottom of the FV.
Bear in mind that if you have chucked the hops in as they are you will need to filter them out as you siphon off the beer into bottles/keg/bottling bucket. A sterilised sock from muslin or nylon mesh will do this; I use one from a festival kit

chucked the hops in mine on Friday (day 22 at a steady 19deg) reading was @1.014 so it should be somewhere near ready next weekend for a final gravity test

just let it finish and use the hydrometer to check when it has, all will be good !

Patience is the friend of the Homebrewer.

ended at 1.010, but it did start at 1.070 as I added a few bits and brewed slightly short, so I'm chuffed with the outcome. Had a glass full last night as I bottled it and it's tasting good, nice and hoppy :thumb:
