Hello all you fellow home brewers.

As some of you might already know i have just moved over to the darkside and recently got my first AG out of the way. My question to you all is - i've just found a YOUNGS BITTER KIT in my brew room, now i dont want to waste it so i was thinking of using it for a EXTRACT BREW. So any ideas of what i can brew?

Come on lads get you thinking caps on.

I don't know but you've got to remember that a kit comes as hopped extract so you won't need much in the way of bittering hop additions. As a result you may just want to bump up the flavour/aroma. So you could boil a handful of hops in some water for 15 minutes, turn off the pan, add another handful, steep for 15 minutes then strain into your FV to which you add the kit and the rest of the water.

If you want to use it as part of an grain brew I would recommend brewing a monster barley wine or imperial stout :thumb:
If it sounds interesting I'm sure we can put a recipe together for you :)

How about

Radiant King(Anagram) Imperial stout
OG 1.090 abv 8.6 IBU About 50

5kg Pale malt
500g Black malt
250g crystal malt
250g chocolate malt

100g Fuggles 4% aa

One young's 1.5kg bitter kit

Mash the grains at 67C for 90 mins
Sparge as usual
Dissolve the kit in the wort collected from the grains before the heat is turned on
Boil for 90 min with the 100g of fuggles
Cool and pitch with two packs of SO4
Ferment (this will only drop to around SG 1.020), bottle or keg and mature for at least 6 months before trying (probably going to need a year)

Thanks TS

That sounds good to me, when i get home tonight its straight on the phone to matchless to order everthing i need.

Not so sure about conditioning for 12 months but with a ABV of 8.6 i think i can live with it.

That's it the ingredients are now on order, will be delivered saturday afternoon. Ian and Anne from MATCHLESS come good yet again.
