Does anyone know which yeast strain is used in the bottle conditioning of Thwaites Very Nutty Black? And probably more importantly: does anyone have experience in brewing with yeast harvested from this beer?

Ive just kegged a stout that fermented using the nutty black yeast. I did ring Thwaites and spoke to one of their top brewers but he wouldnt give the yeast away. He did say though that the same yeast is used in their tavern porter. It fermented fine getting down to 1.010 and after kegging have nearly 2 pint bottles of slurry for next time

I've used it loads of times. Its brilliant...

However give yourself some headroom in the FV as it kicks off big style...Also needs a good chilling to drop out.

Very similar to Hopback but a lot quicker to do its stuff
