I've just made up a starter of White Labs San Diego Super yeast and the bloody vial totally fizzed up on me. It was un-controllable so I just had to slowly release the lid whilst pointing the cap into the flask.

Some yeast went on my fingers and ended up in the dropping into the flask. In addition, the top of the vial touched the foam from the aerated wort.

Am I being totally anal by thinking it's infected? Will it be ok?

Assume if it doesn't smell funky come the weekend it's ok? Any other checks?

Most excellent. I've never had an infection so don't want to start now.

Because I know it has the tendency to do this I now open the vials VERY carefully. I open slightly to release pressure when I first take out of the fridge then tighten so I can shake and mix.

Ironically, that's what I thought about doing from now on.

also if you use a no rinse sanitiser, just spray it around the top of the vial before opening
