Hi all.
Just wanted to know if there is a good substitute
For the shop bought yeast nutrient. ( normally I use Youngs)

I have heard you can use vitamin B tablets???

Any ideas?

Dan.

I've never used tomato puree either and can't imagine what it might contribute to a brew.

Vitamin B1 is a good addition but shouldn't be regarded as a substitute. You could also use a quarter tsp of Marmite.

If you use one of the super yeast compounds they will already contain some yeast nutrients, but I would still add more. Aleman or some of the others should be able to give you a better explanation of why they are used, but it's something to do with the nitrogen products. Anyway, yeast nutrient is usually about the cheapest thing on the homebrew shops' shelves, I'm currently paying £1.05 for 100g and cost it into my brews at 5p to the gallon.

As far as I know adding Nitrogen can help avoid the eggy smells you can get when the yeast produces sulfur because of a lack of nitrogen

Thanks guys. Gonna try the B1 route.
Only place near me supplies wise is good
Old wilkinsons. They have ran out of nutrient.
Got a dj ready for yeast etc and just realised I
Have no nutrient!!!!!!
