Hey everybody.

I recently had a stuck ferment and repitched 1 pk us05. I was going to throw some yeast nutrient in as well so boiled a teaspoons worth in water for a couple of mins but it smelled so strongly of an ammonia type smell I decided against it .
Is this normal?

Most yeast nutrients are 'amine' based, as one thing yeast need is plenty of Free Amino Nitrogen (FAN) . . . It doesn't contain anything that bacteria etc can grow on so does not need to be boiled . . .which would cause it to break down and give off ammonia.
