I have a pack of 11g yeast ready to use with my next brew, which is currently in the fridge.

I have heard of people storing their yeast in the fridgr ready for use, but do you need to and does it help in the long run?

To quote Chris White:
Dry yeast is only dormant, not dead or inert. Storing dry yeast at refrigeration temperatures greatly increases its shelf life. Stored at 75° F (24° C) dry yeast loses about 20 percent of its viability per year. Stored under typical refrigeration temperatures of 38° F (3° C) it only loses about 4 percent of its viability per year.

Thanks for that guys. From what I am hearing it will not hurt the year stored in or out of the fridge. However, in the fridge will make it last longer and if you do use this method, take it out an hour or so before needed to warm up.
