I'm planning on brewing on Friday. I've smacked the yeast packet and it's swelling up nicely. I was intending to make my starter tonight, but my home made stir plate has decided to stop working. I've managed to get another 12v fan on next day delivery so I'll get it back up and running tomorrow.

Do I
A. Just leave the yeast pack lying round till tomorrow?
B. Make my starter now and just give it a shake now and then till the fan arrives?
C. It makes no difference. Shut up and have a beer?

Wyeast FAQ No.8:

8. I popped the inner nutrient pouch and the package swelled tight but I can’t use it right away. What do I do?
If you have activated a package but can’t use it right away, simply allow the package to swell and then refrigerate the package. The yeast will survive for extended periods if refrigerated. Before using, take the package out of the refrigerator and allow it to come up to room temperature before using. It is best to use the yeast as soon as possible.

I dont use a stir plate for my starters. Just a jar and regular shakes. Whenever I use a starter it takes off like a rocket so without knowing too much about it, it obviously works.

Thanks for the replies guys. @MyQul I was all for your idea, but then I was informed that we’re having a bbq so didn’t get the chance. I’ve stuck it back in the fridge for now and I’ll make it later today.
My main reason for wanting to use the stir plate are it’s a lager yeast, and I haven’t actually used it yet so I just wanted to use it. Boys and their toys and all that!
