I made some elderberry wine over a year ago....still fermenting.. I have half a sachet of youngs burgundy wine yeast left over in the cupboard. Would this be o.k to use or should I get a fresh packet. I am hoping to make some blackcurrant wine this afternoon..

Thanks

Definitely get a fresh packet. It's about £1 from wilkos. Not worth the risk

That's what I was thinking Belter, will send the mrs to the brew shop tomorrow or wilkos as there both on the same street in the local town.

If you are going to brew regularly get a tub of Young's Super Wine Yeast Compound, they sell it at Wilco.

Specially formulated for High Alcohol, speedy fermentation and clearing.

-Bentonite

-Dried Wine Yeast

-Diammonium Phosphate

-Trace Vitamins

-Trace Minerals

Bentonite will aid clearing, diammonium phosphate and traces are yeast nutrients. :thumb:

Hi I tend to agree about the fresh yeast, if it was an unopened sachet that was a year old I'd give it a go. But an opened packet is just bin fodder! (at a £1 a tub it's not worth bothering)

The youngs yeast has to be stored in the fridge and used within three months, i don't know if freezing may make it last longer.
