I'm trying to get together my gear for my first go at an extract brew. ( going by the price of dsm it'll be ag soon enough i think )

10mm copper pipe is around £60 for 25m. I know I dont need that much but it's still over £2 per m. Hop and Grape do their own chiller for £35 plus there's no faffing about making it. Is this a good price ?

Also looking at a hop strainer for my soon to be made boiler. I've a tap on order but obvoisly need a strainer on the other end. I've seen videos where people use the stainless braid from a compression hose, they're only a few quid each. It'll need to be reinforced though, whats best to use for that ? I know I could just use a length of copper pipe but it's not something I have, unless I want to buy 3m of the stuff just to use a small portion of it.

Hello. My first hop strainer was a stainless braided flexible tap connector, with the middle removed. It stuck immediately. Now use a simple 15mm copper tube with holes in. Works fine and easy to make. :thumb:

Take a look at this thread.

They are a little more expensive than the ones on Hop and Grape but they are not in the same league as the ones Big Yin makes.

I've a poly bin being delivered this week hopefully. I'll give BigYin a pm when it arrives because I'll need to measure it up first.
