My new wort aerator has a stainless air stone soldered inside fits onto my fermenters bottom tap & connects to my mini compressor also can be stripped down & boiled ect.

Also these kettles are available at asda for £4 ish cheap elements

The trick with soldering Stainless to Copper and or Brass is using the right flux.

For the brazing work I have done, I use the EF flux from CuP Alloys which is great but you are talking of a 550C melting point and using a Silver solder melting at around 600C . . . It's very easy to f*ck up the stainless (Note the professional use of welders terms there ;) ). If done properly the joint is stronger than the original metals.

If the joint does not have to be 'structurally' sound, say adding a 90 bend to some stainless tube for a pickup tube in a boiler/FV/Mash Tun then soft solder can be use (Melting point ~ 205-220C) and here you would use an Acid based flux like 2207 Flux, and this is very similar to use as doing a copper- copper joint using lead free solder. . . . I'm trying to get hold of some 2207 Flux locally, as due to the fact that it is hydrochloric acid based it can't be sent by post.

Both fluxes are corrosive and should be kept in a cool dry area, well away from children and pets

I just use normal old powerlfow flux but try to creat a small indentation in the material that fills with solder & prevents it just running off.If i am joining copper & stainless & there is a little gap then i wet a bit of bread with spit & stick it to the underside to stop the solder just running through does the trick
