Apologies if this has been posted before.
Read in the paper today that Brewmeister have launched a new world's strongest beer called Armageddon that weighs in at a whopping 65%   but at £40 a 330ml bottle it's not cheap
Here's the website if anyone's feeling brave or a bit flush

Technically not really a beer though...

...they claim that they "freeze ferment" it, which is hopelessly inaccurate and we all know what they really mean.

I'm prepared to bet that Brewdog's "Ghost Deer" is actually as strong as it's ever going to get as a real beer @ 28%...

About 10 years ago a friend of mine gave me a couple of cans of French lager. Can't remember what it was called but it was 19%.

What is with the Scots that they want to make ridiculoulsly strong beer? If you can call it that. Publicity he says rather cynically. Although this will rather tick off Brewdog who retired from pushing the "brewing" limits. A home grown competitor.

A mate of mine made a Geordie kit a few years ago with about 3kg of sugar, it was apparently about 14%...

I imagine that's what evil tastes like

I'm no expert but I thought freeze distillation was just a process of taking the water out? If it was originally brewed like a beer, it could probably be considered one.

It's not really though. Beer becomes not beer at like 10%. Then, most of the time, it just sucks.

It would have to be brewed pretty tasteless at the outset, all they've done (if I understand the process) is concentrate the stuff, by doing that they've concentrate the hops and malt flavour as well, so unless it started off weak tasting it would end up ruddy horrible.

But that is all malt whisky is except there are no hops. I want to brew a uber high gravity scottish ale to sup like whisky probably 15+%.

I'm with you on that Alistair. I love having a stock of session-ish beers for a pint in the evening but now and again I do like something different.

Once I get a few AG's under the belt it's inevitable that I'll brew something really stupid - I guess I could mess around with 1 gallon batches in DJs - drip feeding and crazy yeasts here we come! :thumb:

What you saying like?

;)

It's because we dont enjoy the sub tropical temperatures you get down south, mate, and need summit to keep us warm in the winter. I believe this stuff is made just outside of Aberdeen. At 40 quid a bottle, I'm sure I could persuade some of my mates to go 4 or 5 ways on one. Just in the interests of research...

Brewdog's Tactical Nuclear Penguin is pretty awesome, worth a try, Bismark perhaps not so inspiring. I'm sure I once had a dream where someboday gave me a taster of their own version of Penguin. I think they had brewed it with Magpies though, on account of the high costs of penguins these days...

Without going into the D word we can't really discuss this, but I think you're wrong. D takes only one specific 'ingredient' from the fermented liquid, the concentration process leaves everything there, but with less water :)

I used to enjoy the odd barley wine, but they were never something I could drink much of, I'll stick to brewing session ales, with wine or cider :)

It is, as far as the legal position is concerned, the D word. This lot and Brewdog will have a D word licence to do what they do.

True, the law specifically mentions both methods of concentrating booze. Both require the same license from what I read of it as well.

I'll consider a D notice served on this discussion now ;) :)
