If Harry is going to wear a armband at least all the team should and tell the FIFA they are not going to pay the fine and see if other countries follow but no they are in it for the money and have no principles, Harry is trying to negate the reasons with the smallest of meaningless gestures.

Virtue signalling is a term I hate because of almost constant misuse, but what Kane is doing fits the bill precisely. Likewise Denmarks kit ans all the other empty gestures.

Sp half thr posters don't care about the WC, whilst the other half think Wales are going to win. I am looking forward to it, the first one where my son will remember and is also looking forward to watching it.

Not really a soccer/football follower (yes some call it soccer here) but usually take an interest in the WC. (NZ rarely gets a crack even with a kind geographical grouping). This one seems a tainted event from the start however. Obvious corruption in awarding it and serious social issues are overshadowing the event.

Hopefully when games begin there will be some upsets and tight matches that will put focus back on the game.

Having just watched a cracking women's rugby WC final I hope the women's event next year in Aus/NZ reignites the passion a WC deserves...

I don't really have a team I want to win BTW, would love to see an outsider get up...

I hope it's an absolute disaster. FIFA are a disgrace giving it to a country stick in the Dark Ages dressing itself up as a beacon of modernity.

I remember the days in the park, playing with carbon-neutral plastic footballs and rainbow coloured sweaters as goal posts .....

If a player feels that strong to wear a armband why did they not make a stand and not go to Qatar, Oh I need the money?
Not one of these overpaid pig bladder kickers has the ba££s to say I am not going, and why take the Knee then?
Every England player donates their fee's to charity for playing for this Country, don't know any other club to do so, this world cup seems different for me , no buzz of excitement and any expectations, which might be a good thing

I have watched most of the game and am not surprised their odds to win the cup are -

The moment you realise your fans are not really fans as they have left in droves half way through the game.

England: Gareth Southgate says players will take the knee before Iran World Cup 2022 match

Gareth Southgate says his England players will take the knee before Monday's World Cup opener against Iran.

The Three Lions have carried out the anti-racism gesture before their matches since the death of George Floyd in 2020.

They have decided to continue with the gesture during the tournament in Qatar after recent talks.

"It's what we stand for as a team and have done for a long period of time," said Southgate.

"We feel this is the biggest and we think it's a strong statement that will go around the world for young people, in particular, to see that inclusivity is very important."

Premier League players also took the knee before matches following football's return from the Covid-19 shutdown in the summer of 2020.

It was then decided ahead of the start of this season to use specific moments throughout the season to take the knee rather than making the gesture at every match.

FA to seek clarification over One Love Armband

Meanwhile, the Football Association is trying to get clarification over whether captains will be booked if they wear the OneLove Armband in matches in the World Cup.

The captains of nine countries, including England and Wales, had planned to wear the OneLove armband to promote diversity and inclusion.

But Fifa announced new armbands in partnership with three United Nations agencies on the eve of the tournament.

The FA wrote to Fifa in September about the armband but didn't get a response. Their position was that they were willing to take a fine.

They are hoping that they get an answer later on Sunday before the match against Iran on Monday.
