Did this one by myself.
Doing the archived puzzles together, which go back pretty far, we got a couple 5/6 and a 0/6. I was pretty pisse* (angry) once I saw the one we failed on.
I don't know if NYT Is fudging with the game or not. I'd say no since why change a nice game?

I didn’t agree at first about them possibly changing the game, but I kind of do now.

I think they’re trying to make it more intellectual by changing the style of word they give you.

Reminds me of the kind of thing you’d see in The Guardian (one of our uk newspapers).

However once you’ve dialled in your technique, there shouldn’t be a difference in difficulty, no matter what word you get. It all boils down to if you’ve heard of the word before.

I do the quick crossword in the Guardian app most days and the speedy one on a Sunday.
I completed it today, but the were a few words I didn't know.
e.g. "facies" and "napery'

Other than choosing the most obscure words from the Oxford-English dictionary, there can only be attempts to trip up the player with a number of words that have similarly placed letters
(made up):
xxxrxt
xxxrxt
so that you are truly guessing at this point.

I use fifteen different letters in my first three words. I don’t worry about vowels at all. By that point you usually have most or all of the letters, and then you only have to re-arrange them.

I’m not bothered about doing it in 2 or 3 moves. 4 works for me mostly. Ironically today I was unlucky and didn’t hit much early on. But most times with that strategy it can be done in 4.

Just to add to that, I do think re-using your yellow letters on your next word is a waste of a guess.
