TBH i doubt there will be many players that haven't sussed its a good idea to start with a word that has the most vowels in it.

No. I don't start with vowels.
I think you are better eliminating consonants.
You can get the vowels by varying which you use on subsequent guesses.
Eg if I know I have -a-e- there are many words that could be.
