I made a batch (40 pints) of woodforde's wherry on friday 9th May (13 days ago) with an OG of 1040. It has now gone down to 1012 which according to the ABV calculator is 3.7%. I was hoping for a minimum of 4% any comments or advice?

Doesn't help much but mine went down to 1010. I didn't take a OG and had to give it a stir after it got stuck at 1020 after about the 2 week mark.

Bit disappointing as I was wanting 4%. When you say give it a stir is this just from say half way down the Fv or do u go right down and disturb the yeast and if so gently or do u have it well mixed in with the beer again??

I read a few posts about stuck fermentation and stirred right from the bottom. Very slowly so minimum disturbance to the surface. Honestly s*** myself as the whole brew turned a horrible colour. Gave it another week then got 3 daily readings of 1010.
I'm no expert, having only returned recently.

When you prime you will increase the abv. slightly. Not sure by how much I thnk maybe 0.2% but maybe someone else could confirm. If correct that would get you close to your target.
I always make my Wherry short to 20l although appreciate this won't help you for this brew. Good luck.

TY for replies can I ask how much sugar u recommend I use to batch prime 40 pints?

Will you really notice the 0.3% difference? My Wherry end up 3.8% I used 100 grams of brewing sugar on mine :hat:

Yes I used 90g brewed to 20l. So 100g for full batch same here. Right level for me.
