It's my birthday in a couple of days and my wife has bought me a Woodforde's Sundew kit. Has anyone else made this? What did you think?

Also any tips on how to make it that isn't covered by the instructions? I understand that some people use dextrose instead of household sugar for the kegging?

Any tips much appreciated!

Darren

sugar's fine! no real difference.

it took a while to age this one, tastes of toffee for quite a while before the hops come through after about 2 months. still, if it's good, drink it. :thumb:

I brewed short to 20l as the general consensus is that it's quite "watery" and lacks taste. However I had the last bottle a couple of weeks ago and it was beautiful! It had a total of 6 months, just wish I had left the rest that long!

This review could give you some ideas, viewtopic.php?f=58&t=25469&start=0
Do a search on you tube as well I think I saw a few reviews on there with some suggestions on how to improve it, but as usual I think giving it plenty of time to condition seems to be the best advice.
Good luck, I fancy doing this one myself someday.

Got one in the kegerator. It's about a month old and is a nice light summery ale.
Plenty of hop and plenty of body (brewed to 23litres) personally I prefer the Wilko golden ale, but its a nice brew.

I've just polished off my barrel of this - the only problem with it was I couldn't chill the barrel. It was a beautiful drop, just my style (and my mate enjoyed it too!). I brewed it to the full 23l, and I had no problems with taste at all. It took a month perhaps before the hops came through for me, a little too powerfully perhaps, then they subsided a little and it was spot on.

Seems to be the way with Woodfordes brews, they take a long time to come good. I've just polished off a barrel, that I too had trouble storing cool enough, so I just ploughed through it, a little too young really. Just wondering what to put in its place, is the Wilko Golden two-can any good?

The Wilko 2-can Golden is exactly what I plan to replace it with, while it's warm at least.

My sundew didn't take that long to come good, but it did get better as it went. It was certainly drinkable after only a few weeks, and I'd have no hesitation to make another.

I went for it before but they'd sold out, so I went for the Hoppy Copper and was very disappointed by it. But I'll give it a go..
