I tried reusing screw top bottles for my first batches of wine, together with plastic corks (the ones with 3/4 large ridges on them). I found the fit to be very variable, so now I've given up on them. I've also tried a few with the corks that are real cork with a plastic top (like what you often get on spirit bottles) - these seem to work much better with the screw top bottles, presumably cos the real cork has more give in it and copes better with variations in diameter of the top of the bottle.

So, imho -
screwtop bottles + plastic corks = unreliable
screwtop bottles + real cork = better

For long term storage I'd go for non-screw top bottles though just for peace of mind.
