For me the biggest thing is not the app its self but what you are supposed to do if your flagged at being exposed, if it allows you to get tested within 24-48 hours it could be a real game changer but if you just get told to isolate at home for 2 weeks people may do it once but if you have just done that and a day later you get another alert people will just delete it or leave there phones at home.

It looks like you will be contacted and either tested or told to isolate i assume now testing is widespread it'll be the former.

One of my neighbours, and a good friend of mine is one of the lead coders for this app. He is adamant that it is entirely anonymised. They rejected the Google tie up as it wasn't as anonymous as theirs.
The problem for the coders and developers is they need confidence in the app, so they get a high adoption, which returns accurate and precise results, which helps everyone.
The problem is... that the government is not making much of that, and rumours are spreading. Currently most searches return the GP app, which is horrible to use, and has definite tie-ins to the despicable Dominic Cummings and his lot. The Covid tracker is not affiliated to him or his company.
As I understand this, this is a potentially excellent, anonymous, app and tool, that's on the verge of being ruined and devalued by and incompetent government and press!
Boris Johnson just told the country that we will "soon" be quarantining people who fly in to the UK. Whilst we're all screaming at the TV,"Why not now? Why not weeks ago?" remember it's that kind of incompetent dithering that will potentially ruin this app's promise.

The bulk of the app is being made by Palantir who work with Cambridge Analytica. That's why a lot of people have no faith in their trustworthiness.

One Palantir employee worked with some CA staff in 2013-2014.
Palantir has never worked with CA.

But, that's part of the crux of the problem. And why the government is currently continuing to screw things up.

Is this the original app you are discussing or the new Google one?

They used the Facebook data that CA harvested. And several senior players at Palantir worked closely with CA.

Palantir are a far more worrying company than CA.

That's according to the Whistleblower, which could be accurate or not accurate. The problem is knowing.
IF... we choose to believe the whistleblower, then it would appear that Palantir worked on the facebook data at CA offices, for CA. Whether that's right or wrong, they didn't acquire the data for CA and then help them process it. As for high level players working closely, the whistleblower said that CA CEO Alexander Nix was introduced to Palantir executives. I'm sure they were.... people mingle and swap business cards etc...

  • Palantir Technologies UK is providing the software, Palantir Foundry, that powers the front end data platform. Palantir Foundry, which has been primarily developed in the UK, enables disparate data to be integrated, cleaned, and harmonised in order to develop the single source of truth that will support decision-making. Foundry is built to protect data by design. A G-cloud data processing contract is in place. Palantir is a data processor, not a data controller, and cannot pass on or use the data for any wider purpose without the permission of NHS England
The quote above is the government's declaration on them. It looks pretty solid to me, but it's a question of whether you believe they will truly dispose of or dump the data after it's used. And that gains or loses relevance depending on what data is collected in the first place....
That's what we don't know yet....

I mean... It's a company that works for:
US intelligence
US DoD
US immigration/deportation
Was caught working on a project to spread disinformation about political organizations.
And they're literally named after an evil magical artifact from the lord of the rings :laugh8:

Seems strange that the government are going out of their way to have them involved in a project to track the movement and interactions of all the UK citizens.

Should have gone with Huawei instead!
