Will Sodium Metabisulphite damage my pressure barrel CO2 injection valve?

it only attacks SS so if its brass then no

That's what I thought. Hoever I have bought a barrel with a brass valve and it came with a leaflet saying not to use SMBS as it can damage the valve. Maybe inside where I can't see it is stainless steel?

Is it the leaflet that comes with the young's microwbrewery starter kit? I read the same and so just soaked the valve in boiling water instead of using the sanitizing powder on it

No, it's the CO2 injection barrel from thehomebrewshop.co.uk.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway to be sure I can just sterilise it by an alternative mthod to be safe.

Why are you using this in a pressure barrel?

Some starter kits come with a barrel that has two lids...a standard one and one with a valve on....the latter gives you the option of force carbing with a co2 bulb if pressure drops in the barrel such that beer is flat or won't pour easily out of the tap e.g. When beer volume drops after numerous servings
