I made another batch of this on Saturday, with a slight modification from my first effort. The only thing I really changed was adding an extra 500g of DME that I had picked up from Wilkos previously. This, on top of the 1kg of brewing sugar, gave it a higher OG which will hopefully give a slightly stronger finish than the last batch that came out at about 3.4%.

I decided to do the same kit twice so I could see how the addition of DME would affect the flavour and body of the brew. So hopefully, in a few weeks, I'll be able to see which I prefer. Now all I need to do is work out what kit to get on next, I'm thinking of a two can kit, just got to work out which.

I made this kit with 500g dark mark, 500g brown sugar, 200g chocolate malt and dry hopped with 100g cocoa nibs. It's been in pressure barrel for 3 weeks and is one of the best wilko kits I have made. Been disappointed with these kit in the past but this one is very impressive.

That certainly sounds interesting. If I like my second batch of this kit enough I'll happily steal your modifications for my third if I make one. Thank you for the input.

Took my first reading of this today and it came out at 1.012, which already makes it stronger than my first batch with just the brewing sugar. It also tastes nicer already, it has a richer quality to it which is probably from the DME. Can't wait to bottle this up, I'm going to have to force myself to finish the first batch before I open any, but that does mean it will have even more time to condition. :thumb:

I did this kit a few months ago,
I used 1.2kg of Demerara Sugar,
I have forgotten my OG and FG figures but I wrote 6.3% on the labels of bottles I gave to friends,
It took 3 weeks in the fermenting vessel before it stopped.
I bottled using demerara sugar and after 3 weeks in the bottle it was the finest brew I have ever made !
I actually was sorry I gave some away, I only have one bottle left now and will be doing another one once my FV is free again, got a Wilko Newkie Brown running at the moment
