Wilko own brand wine

I have tried the Wilko own brand wine kits and I was not impressed with the quality, had it not been for a friend brewing a Beaverdale Barolo kit I would have returned the old Demi John back to the garage. The wine did not goto waste as I use it for cooking. :drunk:

Out of interest which kit did you opt for? I have one of these fermenting at the moment, but its a Cabernet Sauvingnon, so I'm a little worried now. Not that I expected miracles for £8/kit....

You don't get a 'good' wine kit for £20 unless you get a good deal on amazon. Expect to pay £30 plus and about £45 for a premium kit. Give your Wilko kit time and in about 6 months it will improve.

Sorry to say that's the one I tried, it's ok and like the wine kit you would buy 25 years ago. Don't let this put you off, try a Muntons kit. :thumb:

Are the wilko wine kits not a repackaged youngs wine kits as they are the same flavours and tin size, as well as being next to each other on the shelf as they swap brands, (Im talking about the 6 bottle kits)

Mine was bottled in May along with a Youngs Medium Red while they have inproved a little they have no body and both look light in colour. I found the Beaverdale Barolo kit @ about £11.65 for six bottles was quite good, thinking back I only got 5 bottles in the end but it was a cracking wine and much better than the ones costing a reduced price of £15.00

On the positive side the wine made a good Coq Un Vin in fact quite excellent washed down with two bottles of Rioja that was only three months old.

I made the Cabernet from wilkinsons and drank it within the month. It smelt vinegary but tasted fine and we really enjoyed it

It's the old adage bellarmine - you get what you pay for :thumb:

I've found the £45 and upwards kits like Beaverdale, California Connossieur et al give a great quality wine. It's basically all about getting the maximum grape juice in the kit that you go for

Don't give up on the winemaking just yet :shock: :shock: :shock:
