Hi all,

My wife washed my BIAB bag, I know she was only trying to be helpful but it's left it with a very nice smell of washing powder/softner.

Obviously I don't want this to leak into any brewing I do, It's currently being boiled to within an inch of it's life to try and get the smell out.

Have any of you been in the same boat, do you have any advice on how to get the smell of detergent out of the bag?

That made me laugh, mine does the same sort of thing. She won't leave the teapot alone ... it happens a couple of times a year, I come back to find it squeaky clean and the tea tasting horrible.
You might try spirit vinegar or washing soda ... both are good cleaning agents and they won't mess up your beer later.

Just give it a good soak. A good few days (even a week) and keep changing the water regularly.

I sit here in my gorgeous pink striped rugby shirt that used to be my "best drinking top" so I feel for you! :thumb:

Personally, I would ignore the missus until after Valentine's day ... :thumb:

... that would save enough money for a new bag if needed.

In the meantime, to get rid of the perfume, I would use a 24hr soak in a very weak mixture of Tesco's Thin Bleach followed by some serious soaking and rinsing in plain water.

Enjoy! :thumb:

I would wash in hot water and unscented no dye added oxi-clean. I do this all the time for my hop bags

I boiled it for a few hours on the hob, and then put it through a hot cycle in the washing machine with no detergent added.

It came out as close as cat licks it's bum to normal.

Time will tell because it was used for a brew, hopefully my Californian Common won't come tasting somewhat soapy
