I was just brew shopping online and instead of just getting a siphon clip like I intended, I suddenly decide that I need some liquid yeast and El dorado hops. why is that? Anyone else suffer from this problem?

The yeast is wyeast 1318, London ale iii. Which apparently is the boddingtons yeast (work that one out), so I thought I would give it a go in my forthcoming boddies clone.

The eldorado hops were a whim. Think I will try two small 5L batches, one single hop, the other with Amarillo, purely so I can call it armadillo pale ale.

Gareth my last purchase ended up costing me 122 pounds! i must stop buying stuff for the sake of it

Stevej is the biggest malt and hops junkie in town.

Bad news Gareth, the info about 1318 being Boddingtons is wrong, it's from the old Young's brewery in London. The good news is that it is a great yeast, loved by many home brewers.

Definitely have the same problem.

I buy one of those and one of these cause I'll probably brew this, but end up brewing something totally different anyway.

Still its nice to have a little stash so you can brew whatever you fancy on the day. It's a hobby after all not a scheduled task.

Ha! I was duped by all the info on the web too! But research led eventually to a different conclusion...

tbhi was suspicious as the description of 1318 is fruity and sweet, which doesn't describe boddies at all. I'll use it anyway now I've got it. I'm sure it'll turn out something nice.

I've got some temp control now in the form of a fish tank heater and big trug thing so I'll be able to treat it nicely too

That's your homebrew supplies for one week though, right?!

Haha it used to be something like that! getting back into the swing of things again though, 2 brews last weekend and another 2 this weekend dont no what yet though, bought some coffee malt so might do a porter even though im Portered out lol

You thought right, fruity and sweet is not right for Boddingtons. It's a great top cropper, if you fancy grabbing some good quality yeast off the top during fermentation to use next time. Don't let it get warm, 18-20C is good.

Yes that yeast creates a lovely creamy pillow of a krausen.. I will def top crop this when I use my harvested batch on my next batch.. Infact the starter I have made for the harvest still has a creamy krausen on now..

Ive learned from one off the best

I do the same and try and justify it by saying I may as well buy more to make the postage cost worthwhile. I also often think 'ooh, I can make something with that' whilst browsing too!
