i was reading the posts on the forum sugestions section, and there was a discussion about wherever there should be an biab section, and this got me thinking about how i brew my beers? i have brewed many beers like this an all turned out great loved em all and just done another last week,my house is only a one bedroom house so i am restricted for room really so this is why i brew like this?
my system is an mash and boiler in one an electrim, i have made thick insulation what is silver bubble wrap and hardly loses one or two degres, i use a big grain bag to fit in,warm the water to strike temp then add grain can handle up to 6 kg no probs!! mash as usual, then empty the wort doin all usual lautering etc, into another container, then i sparge and rince the grains jus pouring 80degres water more like batch sparging really!! any how when done i take out the bag of grains quick rince round the electim then fit hop filter, then very very carefully pour the wort back into the elctrim lol!! for the usual boil and hops etc and i even use a wort chiller i made from copper piping works well!! so is this biab or ag?? might be a stupid question really duno??
but works for me anyhow and will continue to brew like this for a while intrested to here your thoughts thanks.

both are ag, biab uses full volume and no sparge, just remove the bag, let it drain then boil.

mmhh!!! might try the full amount of liquid next time then saves messing around with another container etc?? wonder if there will be much diffrence in flavour?? cheers for your answer

biab is simple and effective , who needs to sparge, :wha: you will lose a lot of liquid when yo remove the bag but that just depends on the size of your vessel. me i only have a 23 ltr barrel so i only ge about 15 or so back , but its enough for me...good luck :thumb:

I brew biab and start with total volume with no sparging.

Totally simple method and am really happy with the results, just need a wort chiller!!!

Here is a link to the method I use it has some pics that show the process pretty clearly.

yeah def gona try that method prob next week bought ingrediants for a sierra navada pale ale, great pics muddy thanks for your link and how did that coconut thing turn out??? will be intresting to see how much finished wort i will end up with, will keep you posted thanks guys :thumb: :D

I started off doing BIAB for the first couple of attempts before investing in a mashtun. I must say that I prefer the mashtun & sparge method as I've found it far easier to calculate final volumes.

It was really nice, had a subtle coconut aftertaste initially but after a few weeks I couldn't pick it out.

Good luck with the brew :thumb:
