I think it is a fairly good idea. The Romans used to sweeten rough wine with grape juice and maybe the time to add a commercial, cheap wine to a HB WOW is between fermentation complete and bottling?
I did a few Rose kits a couple of years back and they were OK at 3-6 mths old, but did not have much for an oenophile to pontificate over. Maybe blending one bottle of rather harsh commercial wine with one or two times the same quantity of a WOW / kit wine would be interesting and almost certainly no worse than either part?
I suggest this as an approach as many years ago I built a vast collection of home made wines - over 100 gallons at one point and found that blending the lesser ones (of which there were many) often made the result easier to drink.
