Laphroiag bottle is 80% gone, my friend bought me a bottle of this as a late birthday gift:

A real favourite "easy going" malt. It's a nice sweet island style (which is really quite a different beast to an Islay) and I tend to polish it off far too quickly...

OOOOOO

Beer and Whiskey on the same forum, I'm going to like it here :D

I've got a glenmorangie on the go at the moment, literally :) There is also a bottle of Ardbeg ultimate in the cabinet awaitinng the right moment to open, at close to £100 a bottle it'll stay sealed until I'vev got a good reason to open it.

Sadly, from my point of view, the really good scotch has shot up in price recenlty, I bought a bottle of ultimate last year in June for just over £50 (thought it was a bargain too), the one in the cabinet now was £90 odd  !!

Depending on mood I like either the Islay malts, laphroig being more affordable so drunk more often, or highland, a good glenmorangie being the preference then. Not that I'd walk away from a nice speyside you understand, but then I'm a whiskey whore :D

You have good taste, drop that damn yankee "e" though... ;)

I always thought it was an Irish 'e'

I've got a Glenfiddich (gift), a Glenmorangie (gift- but a better gift), a Glenlivet 15YO French Reserve and a Highland Park (I bought them!) on the go at the moment. I like to try different malts, happy to drink a bit of Islay, not so keen on Lowland malts.

The Highland Park (Orkneys) is the one I keep going back to though, lovely well balanced flavours. Talisker in a close 2nd!

It's an everything-but-scotch "e"...

...although pendryn doesn't have one either...

If you like HP Sauce then I really do recommend you look out for Scapas. They are hellishly expensive at the moment because what's on the market now is from before the distillery got mothballed and the new stuff isn't ready yet...

the 12YO and 14YO are the bees knees!

With an “e” - America and Ireland, although even the Yanks have some exceptions.
Without an “e” - Scotland, Wales, Canada, Japan, India and pretty much everywhere else

Sorry about the 'e', I've been working for the damn yankees for close to 12 years and now even find myself spelling stuff with a z when I'm not emailing, or report writing :(

I'm working on this, with luck I'll be back working for the Brits before too long, had enough of the lack of ethics :(

I only got into whisky a couple of years back when I decided to give the single malts a try(before i'd only tried JD or bells) it was when Wetherspoons had Talisker in for a burns night promotion. I've never looked back and it seems it was a pretty good baptism as I prefer my Islays in the whole with Bowmore being the all rounder I drink most. Lagavulin or Ardbeg are probably my favourites i've tasted and i've got a real soft spot for Old Pulteney especially the salty twang it has.

Well the end of a very good week for me ............

Mrs C had an excellent result at the Oncologist following cancer surgery earlier this year :thumb:

No 1 son had a great result this morning following some very important exams

and I won my first first division crown green bowling match having jumped from division 5 to division 1 in one year :D

........... so if you have a glass of your finest to hand, please join me in a celebration following a rather difficult time, mine's a very large Lagavulin :thumb:

Damn it! Missed this!

Now, given that list I expect that just one Friday night large one (or two) won't be quite enough. Same again tonight? I've got a pretty good (although nowhere close to your) week to put to bed too.

Congrats on all that stuff, you must be well chuffed.

I like good news. Maybe we need a, "I've had a great day/week/month/year - join me in a <beverage of your choice>" thread in the Snug?

Now that sounds like an idea :thumb: It's nice to hear/share some good news now and again :thumb:

I was quietly plastered last night, something that very rarely happens these days, don't normally drink very much, but it was going down a treat last night :drunk: ......... but it was a very good week indeed :D :D :D

Might just have a quiet beer or two tonight and finish off with another Lagavulin

Please on your news Baz. My wife also beat cancer after 2 operations at the end of last year and start of this year. You can not describe the up and down emotions we have been through over the last year or so. Although it will be 5 years before she gets a total all clear life is getting back to normal. Wish you and your wife all the best, will raise a glass of glenlivit tonight. :drink:

oooh, I like this thread. I'm fairly new to whisky, only got into in the last couple years. My friends and family know that it makes a nice gift for me... At the moment I'm enjoying a Bruichladdich '92 Sherry edition, Laphroaig quarter cask and a Glenmorangie. All were gifts, the Laphroaig is my fave with the Bruich a close second. Don't care for the Glenmorangie much though....

If you really like a Phenolic the go for the Ardbeg it is the most phenolic of the Islay malts at 50ppm phenolics, as my wife says "its burnt mud in a glass!!" Ardbeg smokes the majority of the malt on Islay

I have an Ardbeg 17 year old that SWMBO says I cant open 'til my 60th. God, this is going to be the longest 21 months!

I have been lamenting the fact that I was missing an Islay from my collection of

Bruichladdich '90
Bunnahabhain 18YO
Ardbeg 10YO
Bowmore Mariner
Laphroaig 10YO & 10YO cask
Caol Isla 12YO and '84
Smokehead

I was planning on buying a bottle from The Whisky Shop at manchester Airport at the beginning of June . . . . However I was sorting out the sideboard and discovered a previously unopened bottle of

Distillers Edition 1994 Lagavullin Limited edition lgv.4/498

So this means . . . . I can buy a Port Ellen instead
