Came out with:
A bottle of Talisker, 10 year, 45.8% abv, £22.95
A bottle of Balvenie ‘double wood’, 12 year, 40% abv, £22.81
A decent bottle of port.
A bottle of Frascati (Father-in-law's Christmas treat).
A bottle of Asti (Mother-in-law's Christmas treat, even though I'm taking a Corny of fizzy WOW).
Milk, bread, a few cold meats and some sundry purchases for tomorrow's lunch.

Managed to spend just over the ton, mostly on booze :whistle:

They'd sold out of coffee :rofl:

My problem is that it grieves me to finish a bottle of malt unless it's something fairly commonplace or I've got another of the same in reserve. This means that I must have at least a dozen bottles with an inch or less left in the bottom. As you can tell a lot about a whisky simply by its nose, some of the really special last dregs are just opened and sniffed every now and then. Sad or what? :oops:

If that's sad I'm just as bad, I understand exactly where you're coming from :oops:
 
Nice collection Aleman :cool: I've polished off a few of those myself in the past.
I don't have a preference so to speak, I tend to buy 'offers'. I've just bought my first bottle for a while, a JW Green Label, a fav of mine. I prefer the blue but it wasn't on offer :roll:

and yeah it isOmar! Love the mars volta! Been to see them 3 times! should have been 4 but they had to cancel a show in Manchester after Cedric did his voice in Birmingham the night before! :twisted:
 
I've just noticed that I'm missing a lagavullin . . . . Can't think where that went :wha: Oh well That's an easy one to find, . . . much easier than the Port Ellen :cry:

I tend to buy them duty free when going/returning on holiday . . . Which means that I can't holiday anywhere in Europe . . . What a shame :lol:

Only went past an asda today so settled on the twelve year old Highland Park single malt whisky :D I`ve had a smell and i`m looking forward to a taster later - the sleeve recommends a drop of water, thoughts and preference on this would be much appreciated. If it lives up to the description of a smooth, balanced malt with a gentle smoky finish i`ll be very happy - it smells good and nothing like the smell of a cheap whisky :cool:

Looking forward to my journey into the world of whisky and whiskey ;)

The trick is to start drinking it neat . . . and then after a few sips, try adding a dash of spring water to it . . . and see what you prefer. . . as I said earlier, you also ought to try and see if there is a difference adding warm water to it. With some malts it really releases a lot of flavours

The purist say you should use water from the same source as the whisky its self, not easy here in Essex.
I prefer without but maybe because of the chlorinated stuff we are served. A bottle of Highland spring might be the answer.

Definitely add a small splash of water. It open up the flavours and aromas wonderfully.

but as Dennis says ^^^ better to use a drop of bottled rather than tap :thumb:
 
Spring water on the shopping list for today :D Didn`t taste last night but will tonight :thumb:
 
^^^ Bugger it's a bit far to nip round, I was going to offer to help ;)

A few years ago I took son walking up Coniston Old Man for his first trip up the fells. Took a small container with orange squash, no water :wha: got up the tops and filled the bottle with water from one of the high becks ;) he'd never tasted orange squash that good :!:

May a time I've been out and about and bring back some 'fell water' :thumb: no chemicals in that stuff :thumb:

maybe a bit of peat or some fallen livestock further upstream :wha: but it's pretty well filtered :lol:

Did you go in the black bull for a pint of Old MAn ?? I think it is the law in those parts.
