Well after sampling this in a pub while in Norfolk - it took hold of me like no other beer had done to date, including my home town brew of Ringwood's Old Thumper.

So, i am on the Holy Grail for a clone beer. After much searching, the former owner gave up some pointers on another website, so allowing me to get a little more closer. I have played around with the recipe to near what it might be like.

2.85 Maris Otter Pale
0.48 Kg Crystal 120
0.35 Kg Caramalt

90 mins
32g EKG
25g Progress

10 mins
17g EKG
15g Progress

I dont think i have the knowledge to cope with understanding these hops and quantities, but if others would like to add to this thread to improve on this i would appriciate it. I will be brewing next week to see if im getting close.

Thanks,
C

Update;-

More research starts to result in some good leads;-

23 ltrs

Grain
3.31 Kg Pale Malt
0.25 Kg Crystal 120L

90 mins
24g EKG
16g Progress

10mins
70g Bobek/Styrian Goldings

I think this is a very logical assumption of the clone, so this will be the one i will be making for Crimbo.

Well its into the corny to mature. I sampled some and it tastes fantastic, the aroma is amazong - As i have only tried a few pints of Wherry from the pub i think i have a very close match.

It's amazing! Cant wait to try more.

So sorry you appear to have talking to yourself on this one! Let us know how this goes, many of us started with a wherry kit and have wondered about an AG version.
That's nothing new :D and i will update

well done. I do like the taste of a Wherry, recipe added to my " to do " brew list....

Yep it's on my to do list as well, thanks for posting it and let us know how it turns out :thumb:

Well nearly a month on i tried half a pint last night. It is a little cloudy, but ok. Taste is soft at first and then the taste of the bobeks comes storming thru. The slight acidic taste afterwards is now fading and i think with another month in the keg that will reduce to nothing.

I am happy with it so far i think i have a good clone here.

On my to do list for after Christmas

19 litre 60 min boil
Maris Otter 3.2kg
Crystal 120 0.400
Wheat malt 0.200

Hops
EKG 20gms 60 mins
Progress 12 gms 60 min
Styrian 40gms at 10 mins

Only Wherry I have done is the Woodfords kit, which matured into a lovely looking and tasting pint.
Hoping this AG will surpass that.

Funnily enough I was thinking recently about looking for a Wherry clone and then your thread popped up! I think I'll give this a go in a couple of weeks when I have a free FV.

This is my version called VERY Wherry - it's a bit stronger ;)
Very Wherry

I was told that the late Chinnook are a crucial part of the recipe.
