Hi,

I started brewing with unhopped extract and hops and have just moved on to all grain but I've recently been given a Woodfordes Wherry kit.

Never having used a kit before I don't know wether to boil the wort for a hot-break or not. Is it necessary or would it affect the hop profile.

To be honest with you I'm tempted just to follow the instructions on the can and add hot water and dilute as this would make a nice change from the half day brewing marathon, with the wife nagging, but something in the back of my mind, keeps telling me it's not right if a messy kitchen isn't involved somewhere.

Comments appreciated.

John

if i was you i would follow the instructions an then dry hop it, i just followed the instructions and it turned out a nice drink (for a kit)

Sounds good. How would you go about dry hopping this one?

Just kegged and fined my first beer kit today (Woodfordes Wherry) brewed as it said on the tin.
1039 to 1012 = 3.6% ABV.
A little sweet for my taste, but I found the hopping rate just about right.
Will see what it tastes like in about 3 wks or so!

Speaking to Ray Ashworth, founder of Woodfordes brewery, he told me that they deliberately keep that sweetness in the beer, as he (and his customers) prefer the beers that way, so it looks as though the kit has performed as they intended.

It sounds like the kit insructions work fine so that's what I'm gonna do. Thanks for the feedback guys.
