Hi all,

I am brewing coopers Australian lager with 1kg of sugar as my first try. It's been brewing for 4 days and the airlock is hardly bubbling. Should I use the hydrometer now for the next 3 day or leave it for 7 days then use the hydrometer?

Cheers

Chris

I would leave it for at least a week before taking a reading. It can finish sooner than that but if it has it'll give the yeast time to clean up after itself so will do no harm. It's tempting to try and get it done as soon as possible but it seems patience is key.

Hi Chris

Welcome to the Forum.

If you can find the patience, leave it for 7 days at least (and preferably nearer 14) before you take hydrometer readings. Lack of airlock activity is not a great indicator that your brew is done after 4 days and the brewing process involves a "clear up" stage after initial fermentation.

Good Luck!

Cheers for the advice, I'll try and sit on my hands until near the 14 day mark.

Chris
